Windows Live Messenger 2009 — contact vs. chat window colours

Something that’s bugged me about Windows Live Messenger 2009 for quite some time is the fact that chat windows don’t match the same scene/colour selection as what you’ve chosen in the contact window (main application). I dug around this morning and — thankfully — figured out how to make them consistent:

  1. Open a chat window with any of your contacts (no need to send a message though)
  2. In the upper-right corner of the chat window click the icon reminiscent of a mouse cursor selecting a menu with a small ▼ next to it (the tooltip reads Show menu)
  3. From the menu that appears, choose Show the menu bar
  4. Now that your chat windows have a File/Edit/Actions/etc. menu bar, select Tools ⇒ Use the default scene

Now your chat windows should adhere to the same scene/colour scheme as the contact window.
